This is a new course on-campus at the National Fire Academy. Here is the course description:

This is a new five-day course presenting the fundamentals of how to build a fire adapted community in the wildland urban interface. A fire-adapted community (FAC) is one that works together to understand its wildfire risk and take collective action to reduce the potential for loss. This approach protects homes and infrastructure and improves safety for both residents and first responders.

The course is aimed at the following groups:

"Students that are new to the concept of building a fire adapted community in a wildland urban interface. The target audience includes, but is not limited to: fire and emergency service representatives, risk reduction practitioners, fire and life safety educators, operations staff, mitigation specialists, fire marshals, data analysts, emergency managers, community planners/decision-makers, non-governmental organizations, land and resource management professionals, and other key local stakeholders.

Priority admission will be considered for fire organizations that partner with one or more of the non-fire service groups listed above to attend the course as a team. Students will depart the NFA with a plan for developing a FAC in a local WUI fire risk area."
